Presque Isle Historical Society Facts

Founded:
The Presque Isle Historical Society was founded in 1963.

Mission:
The Presque Isle Historical Society seeks to study, preserve, and promote the history, local culture, heritage, and physical artifacts of Presque Isle, Maine for future generations.

The Presque Isle Historical Society strives to accomplish its mission through a variety of public programs and activities including but not limited to exhibits, publications, lectures, tours, and operation of the Vera Estey House and the historic Fire Station.

Facilities:
The Presque Isle Historical Society is moving into what was previously the old town fire and police building, which was built in 1912. These public services have since moved to buildings elsewhere and the town agreed to move the Historical Society into the empty building.

The current collection is housed in the Estey house, which was willed to the Presque Isle Historical Society by Vera Estey. However the will did not allow for any non-original additions to the house, and soon the collection began to outgrow the available space in the house. The Society began looking elsewhere for a larger home, which is when they found the old firehouse.
